The First Delay: Making the Decision to Seek Care
Women's groups changing maternal health behavior
The first thing a woman or family must do in order to receive medical care is recognize the need to seek care, then make the decision to do so. Decision-making is affected by health knowledge, cultural beliefs and traditions, other people, finances, past experiences, and a host of other factors. SAFE addresses these issues in community-based ways, primarily by working through community groups, including women, men, and adolescent girls.
